|
|
I'm spending the holidays with my family here in Spain and due to my previous triumphs in the little chinese junk shops, I thought I'd see what's on offer this time...last shop, as everything is closing up tonight..all hope gone of uncovering any gems and lo and behold what do I find.....not the now famous and fairly easily found rip off that I previously modded here
http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=2482
but this fabulously authentic(ish) knock off....bar the obvious hand grips and the triggers/trigger guard, to my nieve eyes it's got to have been a cast from one or another of the previous "authentic(ish)" styled PKD's?
not a bad little find I think! I bough the last 3 in the shop and if I get time tommorrow before I fly home I'll pass by and see if they re-stocked.
This one should present a lot less work to mod (in theory...will post my work on it here)
Any clues from you PKD experts as to which version it may have been ripped off from? or do you think it's been painstakingly resculpted by a chinese BR fan working for acme cheapo toys?
Respect

I see a few similarities to the Hartfords, especially the grip which matches the snub version of the Hartford. Very cool find, and of course I would be interested in one if you have an extra

The 'Power & Nicety' on the barrel give it something of a Boondock Saints feel lol. _________________

Now that you mention it Noeland, it does look like a tweak to the COP .357 _________________

So I have begun the first tentative steps to mod this plastic brute...
First job was to sand the rough edges cut the upper barrel out and build the wierd greeblie that's on the real deal. Using my trusty tap washer kit and the tip of a paintbrush the results are thusly..
sorry for crappy mobile phone pics..but better ones will come as the build progresses. Next job was to replace the plastic 'weaver' screw effort and add the other screw that aligns with the barrel. for the latter I used the head of a pocket led torch..it has the elements of the screw from the side and as an added bonus has a cool little lens in the tip...I also cut open the ejection port on the upper reciever ready to be filled with a real metal, or metal effect inner...
finally, for this episode I added the two screws to the mag housing and again, using the tiniest tap washers to effect the allen heads on the revolver case...
more to come...

Can I suggest including "Toy" in the title of this thread because it is misleading? Especially since if you think about it using your terms, all the blasters are "Rip-offs" to some degree, since none are legitimately licensed as yet. I do get what you are trying to say though, but it implies a recasting to most of the members here.
This is probably the closest toy version I have seen yet, mainly because they reproduced both sides and didn't just mirror them. The plastic almost looked vacuum formed though. Very bizarre. If it wasn't for the handle, this would be the greatest toy version yet to make cheap costume versions of the gun. Very cool find, and I hope more turn up and you buy them out.

changed the title sir.
The handle is the major problem for me on this mod. I'm not sure whether to try and sculpt one by hand and add over the existing grip or hack one from the 'other' toy blaster that's been around for a while..
although I may try experimenting with this... http://www.handyhippo.co.uk/p2641-Fimo-Soft-Effect-Polymer-Clay-Translucent-Orange.html
It's not only the wrong shape it's child sized so doesnt sit well in the hand.
unless anyone's got any spare amber grips they fancy parting with?

So far so good, but I wouldn't change the grips: their shape is interesting (my taste of course ) |

for my money the grips have got to change, not least because it's too small in an adult hand and mainly because it hasn't got the 'bulky' feel that I love so much about the real prop.
How I'm gonna do it still eludes me at present, the nice thing is the molded grips have the line down the middle that would be metallic, maatching up with the trigger guard....we'll see....I'm off now to brainstorm

I dig the original grip as well. How about building a larger outer frame around it like they did on the Bulldog so it fits an adult hand? IMO, if you just want to change it to a 'regular' blaster, what's the point? |

haha it's never gonna be a regular blaster in my hands don't fret about that. I'm just hoping for another "Blade Runner Universe" type gun, besides more pointless and unchallenging is to just leave it all as it is and paint it, where's the fun in that? my motto is "if it ain't broke, fix it anyway"
