I found it pretty informative, and nice to see some of Rich's points of view on it.

Although I am curious who Todd Bates is, and whether or not he did in fact identify the Weaver scope knob before me, and share the info with Rich, or if he just told Rich after I posted it on propsummit and theRPF? Rich did give me some credit on there, so I should thank him for that.

Very good read! Interesting about the weaver discussion. I was under the same impression.

I also think there was no weaver knob on the prop when it was filmed.

Just saw a screening Of Blade Runner last night on the Warner Brothers lot, (Shawn Young did a Q&A after) and every time you are able to see the right side of the blaster there is a slotted screw.

Great article!

I agree, especially after seeing how the screw was used, and the fact that it is just barely in there, that the Weaver was added most likely at the end, or after filming. The allen head screw that is just below it in the movie, and on the stunt casts, is also missing from the Hero now. I also disagree with the color of the Steyr's finish. Though it does look like the bluing was mostly removed, some of the shots taken without flash show the gun to be still very dark in color, and in the movie it looks pretty much black throughout the movie.

Wow, some nice pictures of the original with the grips removed! (I'm assuming those are the original blaster)
Anyone have the full set of those pictures?

OH . . . I'm sure someone somewhere has pictures of the entire gun taken apart and broken down.

Holy Cr%$!...I assumed those were pics of Rich grip frame assembly, and was going to congratulate him for getting the trigger guard connection right. I didn't realize they were the hero gun sans grip. Now I need to beg for Rich to be willing to share the rest of those photos

Todd I beleive is the guy who supplied me with the Weaver Knob I cast off of.

I do think you figered it out first Andy.

Yes I got ahold of some special pictures of the gun when it was cleaned up and rewired.

That was one of the reasons for the new 2011 Model.

Richard it really makes me happy to see how all the effort and observations, the collaboration and the debate have paid in the long run.

I was there (it was partly my fault that it was started) when we had that fantastic thread discussing details on the hero blaster years ago over the RPF. At thant time we only had some stills and dvd frames.. that was all. At that time you made version 3.

Now all this amazing info has come out, the real prop was found and we have been debating all over the details for all to see.

Your fantastic craftsmanship and aim has paid in a fantastic replica, one that is making me start saving form right now! I hope you offer layaway plans!

My congratulations on the latest blaster. Honestly!

Rich - a correction, if I may.

I provided you with the Weaver knob you cast for your models. Very Happy

You would if you had been building and upgrading model all along that five years.

On Sat 8/26/2006 2:14 PM I received this email:

Hi Rich.

I'm down at Worldcon in Los Angeles.

Look what they have on display here.

http://homepage.mac.com/ktate/extra/wc06-br/index.htm
(Link no good now)

That is the real hero screenused prop.

ALL the props in that case are the original screenused items.

The props are owned by Jeff Walker, who worked for the studio
marketing the film.

I talked with him for a few minutes (he came up while I was
photographing).

He says the grips are translucent because there's a LIGHT in the
grip. It wasn't used. Note the ON/OFF switch on the side of the
barrel. Smile

He says he has the case, plus the extra parts that came with it.
There were other attachments that weren't used.

I told him how thrilled I was to be able to see the actual props. He
said he had a bunch more stuff but didn't know if anybody would
really be interested.

- k

I packed a overnight bag and drive almost all night to get there for the last day, Sunday and meet with Karl and we were soon looking at it...and handling it.

I think they thought of putting a light inside the grips but there is no sign of any lighting...

I am betting the only place a light could go is near the butt plate and with all of the frame and hammer spring it did not light up well..so they gave up on that idea.

We now at last know as much as we got to know about the Classic Phaser from Star trek.

And thanks to friends like Karl and others I have been right in the mix of these discoveries.

Rich
