After sitting in my closet for a few cold months, I started painting my kit yesterday. Everything has been wet-sanded and so on, primed, and the first coat of paint is on. I'll be wet sanding the first coat today, then painting some more later this week. Its still in pieces but here is a mock up of a few parts together. The grip will be finished with silver rub n buff, as is the ejector port. The paint is satin black, but its going on dodgy so I think I'll pick up a fresh can before continuing.

Its a waxy paint that comes in a little tube, I got it at a craft store. It has a pretty realistic finish in person, although you need to seal it when you're done otherwise it rubs off.
Thanks, after working on it I am getting to like the design more than the actual film version.

This is often said by people about Rick's kits...

Agreed.

I'm that way about many fan built items. The love of the craft and passion for the films is reflected in their work. I find with almost every replica project I take on I have to fight "the voices" from within that suggest deviating from accurracy and refocusing on the creative. Twisted Evil

Seth...I'm interested to see your progress on the snubbie as I mentioned in another thread that I just purchased one from Rick.
Or are you saving the unveiling for the contest?

I sort of slacked on tracking progress, but it is "done" now. I put pics in the contest thread too. I still need to add LEDs but am waiting for a friends help since I stink at soldering.

Thanks, it was a fun build. Lots of little bits to sand and prime & paint. Smile I think that is half the fun really, it makes it cooler when its done and you can think back to the box of resin parts and feel a sense of accomplishment. Very Happy

Awesome! Is there any size loss to it? I know this is something Rick would love to see done with his pieces. You should talk to him.

Thanks Andy.
Follow the new link and you will see a progress in process. I have some of the smaller parts done allready and they fit perfectly onto the ALL Metal piece.
Actually I have had a problem with size gain if you can believe that and with lining up the two mold halves so that it pours up evenly and with little flash.

Wow, very neat with the metal. Are you cold-casting?

Can I just say how much I hate Tripod? I got 20 pop ups and ended up getting redirected before I could finish reading your article. That is with two pop up blockers working too. Evil or Very Mad

Nice work BTW Very Happy

Sorry Seth...not sure I'm up on the terminology...Cold Casting?
I'm pouring hot metal into a slightly warmed up Silicone mold.
Help me out here...
Andy...sorry about the pop-ups man...what blockers are you using?
I know that "Pop-not" and the free "Google tool bar pop up blocker" work well...

I am using the google toolbar and the built in windows blockers. I have my setting set for medium, because a few sites I use have popups that are part of the site and not ads.

Cold casting is a method of casting with resin that is filled with metallic particles. Usually a clear resin and very fine metal dust left over from a CNC machine or other metal cutters. It gives the appearance and feel of metal but can be cast as a resin. It can even be polished.

Roy, your avatar really is disturbing ...it first had me going because I swore those eyes moved, but not when i was looking straight at them. Now it is even freakier. Shocked
