|
A look at my Offworld blaster.
I've been chipping away at this for a while. Right now I'm waiting for their upgrade.
Metal butt, trigger guard & grip frame.
Once they come, I think I'll take the whole thing down. And install a machined barrel.
I was going to get the updated receiver? But I'm in negotiations for a Tomenosuke.
So I decided to keep the original. It's the very first MIM version.
And being it's my modification testing ground, I kind of like it.
If anyone wants to get machined parts from me? I'll be happy to help you out.
Just shoot me a PM.
Here are a few pix of stuff I've done:
I didn't like the transparency of the grips. So I lined them w/ chrome vinyl.
And have replaced a few plastic pcs that were real crap.
I also repainted it. The orig. gloss black was really bad. I used a semi-flat.
And in some areas, I just wet sanded down the orig. paint.
I machined 5 brass loads for the revolver chamber, that really adds some nice weight.
I'll update more as I go.

Absolutely. I love the clean finish of machined alum. Not just for the
plastic bits, but to replace warped parts of some metal kits too.
It's amazing how sharpening up a few parts, will breath new life into
any kit. |

I get a kick seeing how they copied my travel stop for the bolt.

LoL! It is funny how so many "designers". Lack imagination.
But what do you expect? It's a good idea.
Hope you're feeling better? It's nice to see you posting. _________________ Que la Force soit avec toi |

I wouldn't say that they lack imagination, it's just that they didn't think of it |

It was the best solution for the long draw bolt.

It's all torn apart right now. I'm installing the "grip frame" upgrade.
I'll post some pix this weekend after I'm done.
I did mod the trigger guard & butt plate.
And installed the knob I made. _________________ Que la Force soit avec toi |

Excellent! I got the frame, trigger guard and butt plate upgrade as well. Did you personally machine the aluminum bolt? I would love one of those. |

I do machine the pts myself. And am more then happy to make pts
for other board members.
I'm in the process of totally re-designing the inner bolt. W/ a little luck,
I'll have pix up this w/kend.

|
|
I am just waiting my upgrade too from Off-World. The whole metal frame etc, plus i spoke to a guy on the American version of ebay, since i had seen his stripped upper receiver for sale, which shiny, and looks pretty cool. I have ordered that also.
I have just got some model gun metal spray and carefully applied a coat to the barrel and other bits. Its only when you strip down an Off-World, you realise how much plastic there is. It should hopefully look good when its finished.
The bottom line is, that Blasters are not a mass produced item like your light sabres, so is hard to get a decent one into the UK where you dont have to take out a second loan. Still they're worth holding on too, and i figure with the metal bullets i got from France, the Leon and Deckard photos, and pretty neat BR shield, i have got a nice little investment there, and one i wont be parting with anytime soon. _________________ He can breath okay, as long as no one unplugs him |

Blue the parts to your liking, then custom mix some either Testers acrylic or Humbolt gun metal with Testers steel until you get the closest match.
You MIGHT need to add a little flat black depending on how dark you blue it. Didi this on the C version of an OW.
I used a little bit of the gun metal paint to a lot of the steel paint. 2 to 1 or less. You have to play with it.
Use the inside of the bolt as your test paint aria. You need to let it dry to see what it will look like.
Also I noticed you have the first version OffWorld.
I have modified all of the Offworld versions and the one you have is the best of the bunch to modify.
It is sturdier all around, and is molded in black ABS plastic.
Once you strip the paint off (Testers paint thiner and a soap free Brillow steel wool pad and elbow grease)
You wont need to paint the black parts as the color is a match to the "real" prop.
Hope this helps. _________________ "No choice pal,..."

Addendum;
If you don't want to custom mix the color a RRREEAALLY close match it would be Tamiya Dark Gun Metal Spray Lacquer.
You might want to dust the receiver first with a high gloss black, any brand rattle can will do. _________________ "No choice pal,..."

Here is my new bolt design. After some of the comments above, I felt
it best if I came up w/ my own design.
I goal is make the best parts possible. Not only in quality, but in design
as well. I want to make cool stuff!!
And while I'm at it, solve problems too. The biggest issue w/ OW, is
assembly. It rattles & falls apart.
But the gun it self has a ton of potential. Just needs some love.
W/ a little luck, I'll be able to cut a deal w/ OW? And I'll be able to really
rock out a killer blaster.
In the meantime, here is where I'm @.
As always, I more then happy to make parts for anybody who wants them.
I'm only a PM away...

Looking way more spiffy than before ; could you explain what you did with the bolt lever, I fail to see what's going on in there. ...maybe it's me, or it's just that the pics are not "clear" for me. |
