IIRC that card was auctioned by www.screenused.com as part of Jeff Walker's collection and bought by a member of our board... (not me, unfortunately)

BTW Tom, did you provide a font for the ID numbers seen on the street cop uniform badges (the one on the shoulder, near the neck, for example) ?
I'm thinking about that because of the police badge you have posted just before...

I'd be curious to see if you'd have any idea on how this one was made... I think the costume dept used a barrette and added numbers (Letraset I suppose) on it :

The thread where all these cop patches and badges were (heavily) discussed after Jeff Walker's collection started to sell is here :

Skin Job 66,
That font for the numbers looks like Microgamma, or Eurostyle (identical from some makers) and thats what I think the badge used.

This is a detail of a sketch by Charles Knode costume designer, where I found a patch to render flat for manufacture.

I would do these drawings and xerox them and like a coloring book, would render them with color pencils or markers. Many examples like that are in the DVD segment "Signs Of The Times" (in one of the Blade Runner DVD sets).

A finished patch. (Designed by Charles Knode)

This sticker was on one of the car sketches or paintings by Syd Mead.
When Ridley saw me making these perfect knock-offs on their
designs he told me to "stop that. Do your own ... and more eclectic"!
But don't waste this work.

Tom, thanks for the response about the V.K. "wheel"...maybe the Polariods will shed some light on the graphics.

Great pics and infos...I feel like I won the lottery just talking to you and you sharing all of that. Cool

Edit: yes, it's Microgamma (Eurostyle) by Letraset.

Joberg,
Once again, spelling is not my best feature. (MicrogRamma/Eurostile)

Joberg,
This is the Mead sketch I was talking about.
I never saw a sketch of the phone in your photo.
Many props were "hobbled" together with parts right in front of Ridley,
and then finished in the shop. Any of you talking to Steven Dane?
He was a master at this craft.

Yeah and I had the pic of the Letraset in front of me and mispelled it also (must've been a "geezer moment" )
Yes, I remember that drawing by Syd Mead...I don't think anybody here is talking to Steven Dane...yet.

I know Rich Coyle and/or Phil Steinschneider had talked to him. I sent some emails out to addresses I found online a long time ago, but never got a reply. I did get to finally talk to David L. Snyder through facebook, albeit briefly when we had the 30th anniversary celebration group set up by Charles de Lauzirika. Art Shippee is one I was really hoping to talk to as well, but was never able to get in touch with. This is back when I was researching the gun more, and trying to find info on the elusive gunsmith, that we only got nicknames for, through 3rd hand sources. A little sketchy perhaps.

Lol! Tom, being the creator behind these cards I can understand the shock reaction when someone refers to them being so significant. For me they are right up there with the Blaster. We had threads that went on for years dissecting these cards, kinda like a forensic investigation. Sounds crazy but was alot of fun Smile

So cool to see the images you're posting, especially after the years of speculation that went on. That Japanese katakana was a huge mystery and its great to finally see it.

Here's how far I got with my interpretation of the red text. Kevin pretty much deciphered most of it in his thread at propcircle. These were printed onto plastic. I think I got quite close with the final symbols

First a note to anyone hurt by my "holy Grail" remarks.
Sorry. Didn't mean to slam your intrests in the work, or inflate
MY position by stating who I've worked for. Quite the opposite.
I simply see MY work from MY eyes from a humble perspective.
I am grateful to have received such a warm welcome here and am
happy to fill in the blanks where I can.

BeastMaster,
Where did you EVER get the "$" Card? I don't recall that getting out.
That was probably in Deck's wallet. Rid and Hampton discussed the money
ideas at some length. Prop Master (Terry) probably offered the biscuit wrapper idea
as money. I did the card and some advertising stickers. I think Dick
covered the money in the book. By the way, my name is on that card.

Andy,
I'm not sure about this BUT...
Dane may have gone to Stembridge Gun Rental to discuss having the blaster built.
They started at Paramount over on the RKO side of the lot
but moved to nearby Glendale California where I think they still are.
Perhaps this will help while waiting to get to Steven.
Steven Dane was also very involved in the REthinking of the final VK.

Thank you again Tom, that info will be really useful for my Cop uniform replica.

Incredible, it's the first time I see a close-up of this drawing, there's so much details in it, never would have guessed !!!

Shocked

BTW is there any chance you'd have behind the scenes photos that would show a little more of these cop costumes than what we could spot in production photos ?
This is what we have found so far and shared on the board :

Love that one, very Moebius !
It's rather obscure yes, but iconic though in my book...
Damn, and I realize again that I wasn't that far at the time I tried to recreate it (for Tim / offworld66) from blurry screencaps !

So the $ Card actually made it to the wallet? Smile I recreated this version from these images on the Final Cut dvd..

Also do you know what was intended for the back of the $ card? I pretty much copied the Vidphon when thinking about the backs..

I always wondered why the money was out of shot Wink would really like to know what that biscuit wrapper was

So other than the ID card, Key and Vidphon cards and possibly the $ card, do you recall anything else you may have designed or saw in the wallet? Smile

BeastMaster,
I have to agree with joberg. A masterful job. Even I have to say it all
looks like my work. I like the back of the VK card ( logo appears the
way I did it on the VK face). I didn't do a VK card but wouldn't mind
your card in the wallet. I see what you did with the $ card. Very clever.
Not sure we ever made one, but we could have.

I'm sorry I'm not more help, but as always I confess I'm not the prop master.
I vaguely recall a big tin drum with ball biscuits ( pong pong size) that were
individually wrapped in thin paper with pastel colored inks.
But I may be wrong about this.
Earlier in my career I assisted a prop master but got a break
when someone needed an artist.

About the holes: must have been done by the propmaster after a request from Mr Scott.
I did see them on the BluRay a couple days ago.

As for the back of the $ card, I can look but doubt I have anything.
You should do something inventive...perhaps a phantom of the $ mark as it appears in the sketch.
..plus some Asian text...what do you think?

Oh, one more idea for the wallet (if me and Hampton had our way),
A wallet size photo of Mom.

Tom, did you do the graphics for the parking meters? Seems there's a lot of stickers and such affixed to them.

Thanks guys Smile Tom, thanks that means alot, glad you approve I tried to make the VK card in the same fashion as your other cards.

Yeah the back of the $ card always bothered me as I got a bit lazy when it came to designing the backs. I think I wanted to play it safe by referencing from the vidphon back. Though after seeing the back of the keycard and taking in your idea of the phantom $ I'd really like to have another crack at it. The problem is getting these cards printed means having like 30 done Shocked

The holes are a mystery. The only reason I could think of them being there is to indicate a mechanism like the holes in the old plastic keycards.

Ah I like the idea of the mother photo! Very Happy I always thought one of the piano photos was his mother photo. Might be fun to track down something unique along those lines Wink
