|
|
With some cardboard left from my Nostromo model http://www.propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=3942,
and in lack of modeling stg related to this incredible spaceship
I was wondering if I could scratchbuilt one of the most fascinating place of the tug : its command bridge.
I love the general look as seen on these photos posted here by Skin Job66 ...
http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=1522&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=nostromo&start=440
... but at the same time it always seemed too difficult for me to reproduce this perfect and sophisticated design
Luckily, someone on PS already did the job, spending huge amount of time on this bridge, and I would not have started anything without the incredible work from Starriger :
http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=1522&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=nostromo&start=420
Once again Steve, thank you so much to let me use your renderings as reference for my model
Well, back with cutter and glue for my second scratchbuilt project....
The first problem in my mind was the seats. I cannot built them entirely from cardboard. I started with a base and add plastiline, trying to create the particular design.
My first try :
... not really satisfying
Trying to improve the cardboard base and plastiline design...
The main bridge base (with Starriger printed rendering as reference). The final dimensions should be around 23"x23" (60x60 cm).
First difficult cuttings, for me , the seat framework :
work in progress with the new seat design ( It will be the original one, I will have to cast it 6 times for the model... something new for me, but all in good time . Eight seats total on the bridge but two rear ones with a different design)
Another Starriger rendering as reference : the side view
the actual progress... and a long way to go

Thanks Isnochys79, but I didn't post the pics of the bridge on the link, others have (Fred, Colin, Starrigger, etc).
I did, on the other hand, made a model of the chair (not easy design) and the corridor leading to the hyper-sleep room (check the Alien model section)
As for your project, you have all my sympathy; not easy to do and a lot of sleepless nights ahead waiting for you...eager to see the next stuff |

Not sure if this will be of help to you, but here is a rare photo of the back of the bridge section. A bit close-in, but hope it helps.

Some progress on front and back panels (with one of the monitor).
The first test assembly with the seat.
As you will notice, we have had some particulary hot days in south of France this august and the plastiline seat need a better place
I am now working on the side cockpits but as they are situated on a different level I need first to think about the different other levels of the bridge...

This is looking awesome!!!
I need to get you a more recent floor plan, as the one you are working from isn't as screen accurate as it should be. Especially in the back.

Thank you Pro Mod, Steve your precious floor plans are always welcome, especially the back ones. But I use too your sketchup bridge rendering which is a perfect visual reference for this project. Here are some new photos whith the side cockpits on their ways and a first intermediate floor level...
... and the second one (no, not a millenium falcon project )

Excellent job...as the second pic, it looks more like the inside of Discovery from "2001 A Space Odyssey" (where the space-pods are parked). |

I will have to Fred because I want to add some small stuff for details... but I will do my best . Working now on the third level. You will notice at the end that I always refer to the two most known photos of the bridge...
BTW, during researches,I have discovered this incredible artist working on Alien lines and... the Nostromo Bridge !! Superb pieces ... far from cardboard

Excellent job (I love it when I can say it in French and in English without a difference between the two )
Are you going to do the ceiling as well? |
