I would have thought the barrel that comes with the kit is pretty good...no?
TomPRO blasters have a pretty good strong barrel, in that, as I understand, it is high quality made with plastic / metal composite mix material with steel plug(s). Although...yes it would be nice to have an all steel made replacement.

I received my Pro kit today and I can attest that, while the kit is very nice, the Bulldog frame and barrel are just ABS plastic. If you're going with an all-black look (like the assembled version has) then it's probably fine. But for those of us going for a more metallic look, there's no way it'll work. |

I'm in for multiple steel barrels if someone does a run. |

I think the kit is comming with a greyish plastic barrel, yes?
As I'm going for the worn metal Worldcon'ish look on the receiver, I think it'll look weird with a plastic barrel, the coulors won't match... I could just paint the barrel, but you know, a metal barrel will just be much cooler....
So if anybody is planning a run, I'm interested _________________ Monsieur, azonnal kövessen engem bitte |

Well, I haven't been able to find any steel barrels available, so I'm going to try making one myself, since I do have a lathe.
If it works out satisfactorily, I'll let you guys know and knock out some more. |

So, I ordered some steel rods today, they should be here in a few days. In the meantime, I happened to have a spare aluminum rod lying around, so I got a good start on a test barrel. Still need to get it to final length, bevel the end of the barrel, put the slot in the tail so that it can be mounted, drill out the front bore and finally tap the three holes for assembly. I should hopefully have an aluminum prototype in a few days.

So, I thought this was going to be a pretty simple project but as I went along, I found I needed more and more stuff to get it done!
I have the steel for the barrels in and most of the stuff I need to get it done. Dave used a special saw on a vertical mill for the slot in the tail, but since I don't have access to that, I had to come up with a workaround. Took some out-of-the-box thinking, but I figured it out!
So, where we stand now: I am waiting for the arrival of a specialty-sized drill bit and some aluminum stock to make a custom jig to make sure the screw holes are all perfectly aligned. Those should be in early next week, and when I have my first barrel fully finished from steel and verify that it fits and all the screw holes line up, etc., then I guess I'll start seeing how many people want one and move forward (and post a bunch of photos, of course).
So far, I've got about $400 put into this thing. Pricing will depend on how many people want one, but right now I'm thinking between $75 and $100 just to break even. No money to be collected until all the barrels are done. I'm new here and trust needs to be built.
Sound fair? |

Should I take the silence to mean that people aren't happy about the update? |
