If there is a ballpark price I could commit to 5 of them.

Thanks

I'll post pics when mine gets made. My machinist and I will try to determine time and materials, etc. on the build and maybe come up with a cost. We may set it up for the major piece to be CNC'd ... possibly. We've changed from a one piece concept to a one major piece and two little pieces tack welded on concept.

Mine should be done this week or next. I'll let Rich analyze the part and process and decide.

Wait are you possibly doing a run? Will it fit the Coyle?

First YES as it is being made to fit a real Steyr.

Two I guess it could be back on, depends on eltee and his machinist.

Three I will also be making a mold off the master so I can add this new version to the line.

In our research into making a new version, I discovered a new fact. That I have been making my bolt wrong… a minor detail but I see a hint of how the real bolt was made.

I had based my bolt on the idea that it was able to pull back all the way (This was BEFORE anyone had seen the real prop) so my model was based on making a new copy of the real bold which held the cocking lever and rear cap.

BUT in trying to justify the rear section of my old bolt to eltee I found there was no evidence of any bolt section visible in any photo in fact all I could see was a rod inside the rear cap, kind of like the front rod and pin in the front cap.

So at this time I can only say that the piece of pie section and that the cocking lever that we can see with its cut slot is the only part I can say is correct.

BUT how that cocking lever is mounted to the pie section I cannot say.

I figure there is only two possibilities: Either the pie section at least goes as far back to hold the cocking lever (what we are doing) and then a rod was added to go through the rear cap and hold it with a screw.

OR the pie section ends at the corking lever and perhaps it is then welded or mounted with screws or welded to posts holding it in place…

Until someone can remove the real bolt in the real prop we may never know.

This I do know, there is a round rod visible though the slot in the rear cap.

So this is being corrected.

AND that EVERYONE has copied MY concept and model of this bolt. They did NOT do the research and found these facts for themselves.

So here is this new data:

First the evidence of this rod.

Now the new version:

And just when I thought there was no new facts about this prop.

Rich

PS my copies of eltee's bolt will be in pewter, this special run will be machined aluminum, and will be better than a casting...

And are months into the future.

I'm still in for one for the kit I'm working on - either cast or CNC'ed

New version looks awesome!

Too bad you didn't have a dentist's mirror when you looked at the original prop to see what's what under the rear bolt cap! Shocked

1. Looks as if the rear rod is steel not brass
2. Looks (IMHO) as if the rear rod is NOT centered to the button head emerging from the back of the rear bolt cap

So, do you still think the front rod (with the "pin") is centerlined with the back rod?

IF the rear rod is offset from the button head screw behind the rear bolt cap, how might it be kept in line so it doesn't flop when the bolt handle is lifted?

We're almost good on the center piece, close on the front piece / pin (one of my obsessions) but this new data may make us take a step back and put on our thinking caps again. SHEESH! Rolling Eyes

After some discussion and a second look for a more confirming picture I found and sent this picture to eltee.

The problem seemed to be does the rear rod line up with the screw in the rear cap.

I thing this proves it does and shows the rod more clearly.

We finished the FRONT "pin" of the bolt assembly and now focusing on the center. Here are some photos of that little piece which I wanted to get as close to the original as possible.

Here is what needed to be copied in aluminum:

Here is the machine we're using. Big, strong, precise:

Here is the aluminum pin with a well defined groove, taper, and pointed end:

Sorry I couldn't do a macro shot, all I had was my camera phone. I'm hoping to have the completed bolt assembly done in aluminum in the next week or two.

Yep, Pro-machining makes the difference alright! Glad to see that the project is moving along eltee.

I just found this post - price dependent, I would have been interested in one, possibly two. If things move forward...

Sad

If anybody picks this up let me know...

Could also be interested in commissioning one depending on price...

The machining of the bolt turned out to be a bit complex.

So it became both a costly job and one the machinist was not happy with due to a compromise made in how to put the two rods on.

None the less I will be making a mold of it and doing them as part of my latest updated version.

The bolts will be for sale in cast pewter next year.
