There are several piles of books in Deckards apartment.

Here a couple that I've been able to identify.

The blue book above is a textbook from the 50's called Promenades en France

In the same pic is another textbook titled Something for Everybody is Not Enough. I used to have a pic of this book but I can't seem to find it. Grrr...

Here's another book I've tried to find with no luck.

The Blue book in the top left corner titled CZAR. I can't find anything that matches... yet. Smile

I've got a better pic of it somewhere in my files.

OK you are officially insane. Shocked

But if it helps, a quick book search reveals that there's a book called "Something for Everybody Is Not Enough: An Educator's Search for His Education" by William M. Birenbaum.

And for the paperback whose title you can see, I'm going to guess that it's "FIVE AND TEN - The Fabulous Life of F. W. Woolworth" by John K Winkler.

I think we all are a little bit, here... But you're right, Nick sounds a little more insane than the rest of us, this time !!! (BTW, great work again Nick... Never though one could / would identify some of these books !)

I have to admit: the image of Deck curling up with a tumbler of Johnny Walker and The Fabulous Life of F.W. Woolworth is pretty funny to me.

I would like to think that Replicants would be fascinated with biographies. Peoples history and memories, something the average replicant does not have. If Deck is a Rep, I am sure he does have implants though. But I could see it as a way for Reps to buffer their lack of experiences, and in some cases give them something to work from if they are faking being human. It might even help them pass some VK tests. Just a thought anyway. Wink

From my post on the Propsummit Facebook group...

Over the Christmas holiday, I used my spare time to chase down these “Never before noted or identified!” books from the desk of Deckard’s 2019 home.*

I was quite excited about my discovery, ran my thoughts by a few other collectors with sharp eyes and broad experience, asked Photoshop power users to enhance screen shots to the Nth degree, purchased copies of the books to pin down the closest matching editions, and concluded that these are the books in Deckard’s stack.

No sooner than I had done all of this, the Propsummit forum came back on line and I found that the titles (at least) had been pinned down over a decade ago. Well, the research was fun, and I get to add to the conversation. <3

With acknowledgement to the masters who have trod the path before me on the Propsummit forum (nickdaring, phase pistol, and with thanks to Stephen Gregory for the additional image work):

* This is by no means something that everyone is doing, but I want to take the opportunity to mention that it makes me crazy when people make assumptions/statements about screen-used artifacts being “never before seen/noticed.” The film was released 37 years ago, and been available in some form of home media since 1987. There is very little that the hardcore fan-base has not looked at and sought to identify. At the very best, we can only say, “I have not noticed this before, what has been said about this? Let me add to the conversation.”

Details...

ROMENADES EN FRANCE, Revised Edition
Béllé, René and Haas, Andreé F.
1957, Henry Holt and Company, Inc.

There are a number of editions of this French language text book. The one used in the film looks to be the Revised Edition based on the color. The first edition is slightly darker and the color is more teal/green-toned.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE IS NOT ENOUGH: An Educator’s Search for His Education

Birenbaum, William M.
1971, Random House.
ISBN: 0-394-46037-7
LC: 74-117652

It doesn’t look like there was more than one edition of this book. I’m not certain that this should be a surprise… I kind of like the now retro 1970s typographic sensibility. 

FIVE AND TEN: The Fabulous Life of F.W. Woolworth
Winkler, John K.
1957, Bantam Books (copyright 1940, R.M. McBride & Co., NY, NY)

There are a few different editions of this book. There are no Library of Congress numbers, etc. listed in this book. Note that there is a 2014 reprint of the book, for which I do not have any images.

The first Promenades is the first edition (a little too dark and a little too teal), the second one is the revised.
