|
|
Greetings, all!
New member here, although some of you might recognize me from other online forums.
I have a Tomenosuke kit I'm getting ready to tackle, and look forward to learning from the experts here as I share the build.
Thanks for having me!

|
|
Like many folks here, I’ve been a big fan of Blade Runner for a long time, so I was really excited when Tomenosuke was granted a license to produce replica blasters.
Unfortunately, I missed out on some of their early runs, so when the 2049 kit was offered, I snatched one up immediately. And then the kit sat on my shelf...
But the time has come to finally slay this beast!
I’ll be documenting this build on my YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/c/SPProps
and on my Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/spprops
With any build, I like to do some research to learn about the original prop and incorporate lessons learned from the brave souls who have come before me.
I’ve been making a conscious effort to use less paper and go digital, so I started using the GoodNotes app on my iPad, which is pretty amazing - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/goodnotes-5/id1444383602
Here‘s a snapshot from my first page of notes!
But the real fun with any build is the sharing and collaboration with other makers, so if you have any tips, resources, or recommendations, please post ‘em up!
Thanks!

Unboxed the kit! Man, this thing is beautiful! A little overwhelming with all the tiny screws and springs, but looking forward to diving in! Happy to see the electronics in the magazine were already taken care of. Just one less thing I’ll need to figure out...
Been doing a lot of reading on how to tackle the main components. Will post up soon!

Very slowly...
Been doing a lot of research on the history of the prop and cutting it into a video. That piece is almost done!

Slotted screw is a must if you really want an accurate representation of the screen-used weapon. Great research, btw |

Thanks! Yes, there were a few details, such as the slot screw, that I omitted in the interest of time.
Next up - unboxing the kit!

Great vid and, as I said on the RPF, you should build that thing in a large Tuperware lid to make sure no screws are falling on the floor
The rim of the lid will keep those accidents from happening |

Finished prepping all the parts. Wet-sanded with 800, 1000, and 2000 grit followed by 00 steel wool.
I hadn’t ever used steel wool before, but I am a believer! The near-mirror finish it brought out is amazing!
Cleaned with acetone and rinsed with warm water.
Next up will be painting and blueing!

Yes, steel wool is the go-to in terms of polishing metal and other things/uses also. Looking spiffy!! |

We had some nice weather this weekend, so I decided to take advantage and get the parts painted.
I went with gloss black for the grip frame, side covers, and laser sight.
I went with flat black for the Bulldog grip and bottom plate.
These will all get pretty heavily weathered based on the reference photos.
Next up, I plan on blueing the other parts.
