While I'm still thinking about the airlock scene (and build) I'm reproducing the original screen-used docking bay that was photographed for 2001 Italia.com

I've taken accurate measurements of the entrance and produced the face with its tricky sides, leading to the bay. Next, I'll draw the paneling and the details right on that and will have to search for the greeblies later.

Just curious Joberg. Do you think both the Orion & Aries would fit in the one docking bay together?

There looks to be provision for them both in this concept artwork but bit of a tight squeeze.

Yes, there were supposed to be there together. Since the Space Station is an "In-between" (Earth trip to Moon trip) it's logical that the Orion was the first transport from Earth to SS and then, from there, passenger would board the Aries-1B from SS to Moon.

Yeah, makes good sense.
Although i would hope they give ample time between transfers to allow one to hang out for a bit at the bar in the Earthlight Room.
i'm sure that would be a curious experience Shocked

Well, since it's now known that the original model's face is 15" in circumference...and that, according to the website "planet3earth.co.uk the slot of the bay is: 230 feet wide
63 feet high
244 feet deep ...I don't know math that well; I'm sure someone figured it out alrealdy Wink

Did you mean 15" in diameter ?

So that works out somewhere in the ballpark of 1/220 scale
I thought the Moebius Orion might be a fit but its 1/160

Yep, the Moebius one (as the original Airfix I have since...1973) are way too big for that 15"scale. Maybe a paper model could be the ticket.

Yes, a 3-D print would be the bomb. I'll check on Moebius site for the Orion. 29" is almost the size of the model you see in the Howard Johnson service desk Wink

Thanks, just saw the vid; great news about the 2 scaled Orion.
I'll surely buy the large scale, but also the 1:350...could be right for my Docking Bay Wink
