Thank you! And, yes, you are correct. First 100 ordered copies will receive extra copies as well. _________________

Posted: Fri Jul 11, 2008 10:07 am Post subject: CUTOFF DATES? None!!! |
|
|
Received this one from offworld66. I think this could be interesting for all of you:
Quote: |
Hello,
I am just wondering what is the cut off date for submitting pictures?
I am waitling for a few pieces to arrive to complete my collection and i will be ready to submit several pics i hope you will be impressed with,
including my Gaff project.
Cheers Tim. |
My answer is: no cutoff dates at all!!! Yeah, this project is very open now.... I have more and more ideas day to day.... and receiving more inputs from here and there... Perhaps a more updated thread could be desirable. (In fact, I do this in the Book Project Forum, to no repeat each step in the several places I post this (for me) exciting project).
Anyway, I wanna sahre this question and confirm that there is no dates at all... You can contribute with your pictures, comments, explainings, step-by-step tutorials, links, quotes, and so on when you want, when you desire, when you are able to do.
My last impressions are around my initial "two months" project. Wow, seems like any project here (and there) must be long time projects.... like Paul's bottle, and so on. A book could be long to prepare and have all the author want. And... not to talk about costs, pages, and other technical details, despite copyright issues and so on...
But... I wanna say this is very exciting for me, and this project takes a bunch of my daily free time.... everyday... (some days there are not *free* time, of course...).
Thus, if you, my dear reader, wanna contribute in some way, don't hesitate to post here, PM me, post in the book forum pages or whatever. This is a open project till I put a note in the thread title.
Thank you to all for be here! _________________

Posted: Wed Aug 13, 2008 10:38 am Post subject: Alternate production method - The Blurb choice |
|
|
Yeah, long time since last update.
I must decide to do a change in this project.
For now, there are not enough pre-orders to reach the critical point for mass production (well, by "mass" I wanna mean 200 or more books, printing costs are the same for 200, 500 and almost 1,000).
In the other hand, the size and number of pages limited. 96 pages are not enough, from my point of view, for this project. Only the cars section could take half of pages, or more....
Thus... looking around I've found Blurb. (http://www.blurb.com). I'm not affiliate in any way with this company and service offered. But, I think is a very interesting way to do a book like this. Lulu services was similar, but their services are not satisfiyng for my ideas. (Not for quality, I don't want to said nothing negative about them!!).
Pros:
- Well. Blurb service could cut costs and delivery in many cases. From US to US... are cheaper than Europe to US... Yeah, US to Europre will be expensive for me and the rest of Europeans friends here...
- Also, number os pages could be rised to a maximum of 400!!!!
- Size.... very large format available... like a coffe table book.
- Quality? I don't know... thus, I will do a test book, check it and then... decide. If anybody knows this service and quality of printing, opinions will be appreciated here to make decissions.
- Easy task. Blurb offers a choice of selling directly. Then, anyone interested in this book could order so many copies from their site.
Some questions are fliyng around, of course. First, quality. Second, what about my 2x1 offer to very first 100 pre-orders? Ok. Answers will be as follows. First, I will do a book and test. Second, if all is Ok, the definitive book will be, almost, twice as large in size and number of pages... and cheaper! All the pre-orders faild in the first 100 segment.... then... I believe this is a good offer... anyway...
This is my first post about this choice. I will take all ideas in consideration. A real cofee talbe book produced in standard way is not possible nowaday... but "blurb" book is very affordable!
I'm all ears.... _________________

Really? Good!
In fact, the images supplied will be 300 dpi at least.
And the paper quality? I have in mind 170grs for the original project. _________________
