Thanks Fred!
Here is the custom side detail to match the incinerator Parker ended up cooking Ash with. I used simple flexible straws, furniture dowels, and fitted them onto the side, and sunk dowels at the end of the tube assembly into holes drilled into the side of the incinerator body and radiator as shown and in the dowels to make it very strong, i drilled a couple tiny holes though the dowels into the body of the incinerator, and super-glued brass rod into it, and trimmed the rod off, leaving pins to keep it all sturdy...

lol, I know what you mean. The side of the propstore flamer close-up looks like this was made out of straws. I filled mine with resin after I pinned the shape... Its amazing what shapes are available out there in the weirdest things... |

|
|
Tonight after working late I came home and put in about an hour and a half of dirtying down the incinerator. This is done by putting small amounts of black paint into a cup of mineral spirits and simply brushing several light coats over the entire unit, make sure to catch drips and blot it in. The whole flamer starts to take a darker gray color and all the details become accented. I will probably to this process one more time before I finish it. I also located the weird cast little detail on the oxidizer tank. Its actually a 2.89 cent small turnbuckle with the threaded parts removed..

For the "used look" I have a photo retouching pencil which I broke into little pieces, then with a Q-Tipp, I brush it all over the piece (see my Nostromo airlock for exemple). It's easy to control the amount and you can remove the pencil marks with water...then I fix it with a spray of mat varnish.
Very good job on the flamer JTP |

Yes I am adding just for you joberg! here is a pic about 3/4 way done with the "greeblies" actually I saw this word on another site and only now figured out the word "greeblies" means some useless or unknown detail..(and I thought it was a silly word for star-destroyer turrets and bits) DUH! I guess I have been out of modeling too long LOL!
Here are the greeblies I have going on the oxidizer tank... I have a few more to add down below the machined part. The other side of the tank will be very similar!!

I always thought the "antena" was attached to the semi-cylindar piece below, not directly glued on the flamer...
Despite this, great job on the flamer, JT !

Looks like it is sitting against the cylindrical part, but above, and the rear part is mounted against the body. the difference in Diameters between the front part and rear makes it appear like it could be mounted on the antenna, but it seems like the antenna is just sitting against the half cylinder part

OK JT, I can see the light, now !
Well done dissecting the screencap...
Good point comparing the flamer and the blaster, Steevy... You're right, those details are pretty damn close !

That is a great site!I especially like the action figure prototypes.I knew they considered making them but never saw them before. My friend had the Kenner Alien and I tried for years to get him to trade it to me.I came real close once but he changed his mind. The trading cards are pretty cheap and easy to get on Ebay or at least they were. Not sure they show anything new though. |

Looking good, JTP. How are you going to display it? Are you building a plaque of some kind? Hanging off some kind of grating resembling a part of a Nostromo corridor would look ace. |
