|
|
Ill be having a barrel made by a gunsmith for the bulldog and I needed to know exactly what the length and diameter of the new barrel should be. Id hate for it be too long or too short and then it would have to be done over again and its not exactly cheap (plus gunsmiths usually keep the gun for a while).
Does anyone know what these dimensions are exactly?

Are you trying to build a working firearm?
The diameters of the barrels on most replicas I've seen are 5/8" OD and 3/8"ID
The length of the barrel is subject to many factors.. |

If your using a full size Steyr Receiver you wanta 4.5 inch long barrel bored for the 44 round.
And the outter is .745 inch.
Most people buy premade 44 barrel stock and then have it machined to fit the Bulldog.

Thanks a bunch guys.
Rick, When you say 4.5 inch, where are you measuring from. The very rear of the barrel whee it nearly touches the chambers or from the frame? |

I agree with Rich regarding buying barrel stock, the issue is you'll have to have it fitted by a gunsmith to the gun frame, if you want a firing replica , the measurements given are correct. |

Dont worry Propsjonntb, all the work is going to be done by a (good) gunsmith. |

Yes when "they" call it a 4 inch barrel it is from the beginning of the barrel where it nearly touches the cylinder, so the part that goes though the pistol frame is part of that 4 inch, so a Bulldog barrel is only 3.5 inches from the front of the frame to the end of the barrel.
For years many said you wanted a 4 inch barrel and they were saying from the front of the frame to the end.
Then Charter came out with a 4 inch barrel and it was 1/2 inch short.
