I have heard that the breakdown scene in Apocalypse now wasn't fake and it was a real breakdown. Anyone know if this is true? |

It's true, you have the whole story in Hearts of Darkness, the great documentary about the making of the film...

Yep, true it was and if my memory serves me well, Martin Sheen had a heart attack a few days after the scene was shot |

True again !
OK, back to BLADE RUNNER...
kurtyboy showed us evidence of Adam Ant presence in the film a few months ago :
http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=1916&highlight=adam+ant
It looks like Mao Tse Tong also had his fans in the production team...
Found this picture on Doug Trumbull's GREAT site, here :

Exactement !
BTW, some APOCALYPSE NOW concept posters by Bob Peak have surfaced here :
http://forgottensilver.wordpress.com/
I had never seen most of those...
The final Poster with rising sun and helicopters was finaly the best option, and I'm really glad they used it !

Wow, you guys are really nuts. LOL
-Dale Dye appears in Starship Troopers. Sadly the Apocalypse Now H'w'D plagerism urge
Overtook their reading ability. Dropships in ST, how stupid!
A couple of other notes:
BR was a Reagan Era film
BR was a retelling of Rossum's Universal Robots which was derived from Frankenstein, which was inspired by the Golem legend.
Lucas was sued by Mead over the use of the walker design.
P.K.D.'s robotic likeness is still missing.
Han was a drug smuggler who shot first!
The Star Wars Holiday Special and Ewok movies are cannon!

OK…
Back from the grave…
It's just that I didn't wanted this topic to be buried in propsummit's Pet Semetary…
Today's the 10th anniversary of Joey Ramone's passing away, I wanted to celebrate this great guy and his band through a post dedicated to homages made to the Ramones in two films…
Damn… I miss these guys…
Fred

Ha, the Ramones...long time since I listened to any of their music.
Nice to see that others thought about doing something by putting their names in Cars or other films; thanks for sharing Fred |

Well, Ramone was the name of the car voiced by Cheech Marin who owned the body shop, so maybe more of a coincidence than intentional nod.
I did get to meet Joey back in the late 80's and have a funny story about it that usually starts with me saying "Joey Ramone said I was cool." Back in college I had a friday night routine that started with me meeting up with friends at the RITskeller for dinner and a couple drinks, and then I would head over to the arcade and play some pinball and video games. There was a Ramones concert later that night that almost our whole class was going to go to, so I was also wasting time on campus before I went to there instead of heading home.
As I walked into the arcade, the gates were partially closed but because I had a couple drinks I just walked on through. At that point I two guys from behind me yelled at me saying "Wer'e closed...you have to leave." I spun around to look at two large guys I thought were about to kick my ass, but then the one and only person playing games looks up from his video cabinet, a tall guy dressed all in black with long hair he brushed out of his face, and he said to them. "He's cool, he can stay".
Of course I was star struck and tried to play one game, but was too shaky to do it. So I finished my badly played game, and just thanked him, and told him I would see him at the show. The show was great of course, and one of my friends cut his knee open stage diving. Those were the days.

I really love most of PIXAR's films, they're really great, funny, touching and always stuffed with tons of homages and references to other films...
Well, I'm really sad to say that I very recently soptted 1 rip off in one of their frilms... I talk about a rip off here, not an homage, because they mixed as is some of John Berkey's spaceships but never (to my knowledge) credited him as their main inspiration for one of the main creations in WALL-E, I'm talking about the AXIOM cruise spaceship !

John Berkey is one of my faves. I have some books of his stuff for NASA somewhere too, as well as his original Star Wars poster one sheet. His stuff is so iconic, I can't believe they didn't mean it as an homage, especially since he had died that same year.
On another note, I was re-watching the first season of Twin Peaks and remembered that someone had mentioned that the Saturn lamp from Deckard's apartment appears in agent Cooper's red room dreams. Sure enough it is in there, in the same green color too. I also noticed they had a soap opera often playing in the back ground that was set in the Ennis-Brown house.

I didn't even know his name (Berkey)until I just read it above but I remember seeing some futuristic USAF craft many years ago that were definately drawn by him. |

Another artist that reminds me of him a bit is Robert McCall, who might be best known here for doing the posters for 2001:a Space Odyssey. He worked for NASA almost full time. He died last year.
