|
|
I just recieved my second Cibi Glass from Phil Steinschneider the other day and was enjoying some Johhny Walker Black while watching
"Back to the Future-Part II"...
Got to the scene in Biff's Casino Office and noticed the glass he's drinking from is a Cibi Double-Old-Fashioned!
Anyway...it got me wondering...
What other appearences have these glasses made?
Anyone?

Not a movie but I seem to recall seeing Sisko drinking from one in Star Trek: Deep Space 9 |

I should have figured the glass would make an appearence in Trek somewhere.
Any idea which episode? |

Has anybody thought about contacting Cibi to see if we can make a group buy? Phil can't possibly have the market cornered on these, can he? _________________ Pete |

I have been thinking the same thing. I am sure he has a pretty good mark up on these, and they are still available. |

I checked recently and while they go cheaper per glass they really sock it to you on the shipping.
I believe Phil has over 50 in-stock right now and I think he goes on a descending price scale if you purchase more than one at a time. |

I'm not enough of a Trek fan to remember that, sorry. It was almost certainly an episode from a later season when the war was going on. Quite a dramatic scene and I'm sure he broke the 'fourth wall' during it although I might be mistaken.
Doesnt the Coppola website still sell these glasses? (Its not working at all for me at the moment) |

Anyway, I googled "sisko" and "fourth wall" and eventually found it.
It's a Season 6 episode entitled 'In the Pale Moonlight'
Some good views here, epecially 7 mins and onwards.

If you can find out who the North American distributor is, you can get them much cheaper. That's how I got my set of four. The last distributor was some guy out of New Jersey if memory serves. I know a couple years ago they changed distributors so someone would need to find out who the new one is. I purchased mine for around $37 ea. at the time.
Maybe I'll have a go at it.

OK, I just contacted the company in Italy asking for information on the North American distributor. Let's see what they say. Hopefully you guys won't have to consider selling body parts any longer just to get some crystal glasses.
Any info I receive will be openly shared.
By the way, for those who aren't aware the manufacturer of this glassware is Arnolfo di Cambio.

Thanks Guy's for following up on the idea of getting the glasses cheaper...I'm certainly in for a couple if it comes through! |

Well done John, I hope this works out. I would be in for at least one at that price. Then maybe we could do a sign up to see how many we would need to order.

Please be kind as I am a major lurker and this is my first venture into the discssion world.
I bought my glasses from tuscan-hills.com I am not sure how the prices compare to Phil, but there are lots of other styles as well.
Just my two cents. I love this board, but just don't have that much to add usually.
$56 plust shipping.

This is the site that I somehow had in my mind as being connected with Francis Ford Coppola!? (he does in fact have a site selling his own wine, glasses and gifts etc)
I got my set a few years back from a UK based supplier that sold various retro design items, objet d'art etc
www.eatmyhandbagbitch.co.uk (edit:site is defunct)
Those Tuscan Hills prices are pretty reasonable. Theres a single glass on Ebay at the moment with a $75 starting price and $20 shipping! |

OK, I just received a reply from Arnolfo diCambio. The rep wants to know if I am interest is wholesale or retail. This is where a real price difference can occur. Unfortunately I don't think we would have a large enough number of units to buy as a wholesaler. I have still yet to reply. Any thoughts? |

You might need a tax number to buy them wholesale. If you do, they may have some minimums, but usually not too bad. Just tell him you are interested in resale, but only want to test your market for now. It would be a good idea to have some sort of store front though, even an online store might work such as Skyrocket or Spinner44.com.
You could be totally upfront about it, since I am pretty sure they all ready know it was in the movie. I don't think it would effect price as long as you buy some sort of quantity. If the prices end up being good you can count me in for a set of 4. As long as they don't go too much over $100 for 4 to be more specific. I am sure shipping will be a killer though and may push it over that on its own. |

I personally recommend my method of getting one; have someone buy it for you as a present. _________________ Is this testing whether I'm a Replicant or a lesbian, Mr. Deckard? |

What a lovely gesture, Rachel. Seeing as how you missed my birthday this year and with Christmas coming up, what a great gift. I'll PM you my address and expect delivery in 4-6 weeks. _________________ Pete |
