When I did the Snub Nose i shipped a number of kits to both the UK and Australia. Some in one box, some split up in two. All of them went through not problem. Labeled as "plastic model kit". _________________ Dave

The patterns for the grips are done. The CNC cut profiles were fastened to the frame and sculpted to shape by hand. Rather than cut the checkering into these patterns I'll first make a mold and cut the checkering into a set of resin castings. Then make the production molds from the checkered set of grips.

Turning the barrel out of acrylic on the lathe. I actually turned two barrels, one that's the correct length and has been bored out to use while working on the patterns. The longer barrel is solid, with only the end spot drilled. The castings will then be trimmed to the correct length and bored out. Easier to cast and more accurate.
The recess in the frame for the triggers was milled out on the vertical mill.
The black trigger guard and triggers are castings left over from my Snub Nose Blaster project.

Fit up with the grips and side covers. Waiting for the new 3D printed receiver and clip parts.

When I made the parts for the Snub Nose the end cap for the receiver was turned in acrylic on a lathe in four separate parts, then the half moon segment milled out of the resulting assembly. This time I 3D printed it using a jewelry resolution 3D printer that I built for my shop. Here's the printed part, straight out of the machine, no cleanup was done to the surfaces.

The 3D printed Receiver, clip and clip housing arrived today. Even after years of using this process I never cease to be amazed and delighted that I can draw up a model on the computer, upload the files to a 3D printer and get the parts sent to me in the mail! I think is comes from all those years (and years!) of doing it the old fashioned way. Kids today don't know how lucky they got it!

Awesome stuff! Do you 3D print it from Shapeways or another company?

I use Shapeways. These parts are in what they call Frosted Ultra Detail. _________________ Dave
